hypotyposis: (noun) lifelike description of a thing or scene; vivid, picturesque description of scenes or event; a figure of speech by which something not present is represented as though present

“The list could surely go on, and there is nothing more wonderful than a list, instrument of wondrous hypotyposis.”

The Name of the Rose Page 73

Umberto Eco

This is the best description of a list I have ever seen. By the way, the book I have always wanted to write is a book about lists. Umberto Eco beat me to it.
