Last year, my forty-sixth, I read thirty books. The average life expectancy for American women is seventy-nine years. Seventy-nine minus forty-six is thirty-three. Thirty-three times thirty is nine hundred and ninety. If I never buy another book, my chances of finishing the to-be-read pile are still zero.
